Nakaya pens are hand-turned at the Nakaya workshop in Tokyo from natural ebonite hard rubber which are harvested from the rubber gum tree. Hand-finished in natural urushi lacquer, refined from sap of the Japanese lacquer tree.
Different than the more traditional darker hues Nakaya is known for, the Ama-iro fountain pen adds a lighter color to the mix. Ama-iro translates from Japanese as sky color, a color that is achieved by the application of multiple layers of urushi lacquer.
